Leland Stanford photograph album, 1868-1882.

Images in the album are largely of Leland Stanford Jr., from the age of 3 months to 14 years; others include one image of Leland Jr. with Jane Stanford, which has been hand colored, and several images of Leland Stanford Sr. In addition there is one image of Wilsie [Wilson] Taylor, a friend of Leland Jr.; the remaining images are of other friends and relatives, mostly unidentified. Loose images include one of Leland Stanford Jr. age 2; a tintype of Leland Stanford Jr., 13 years old, with possibly his tutor; two unidentified family members; and one photo [nearly completed faded away] taken by Leland Jr. in France, 1880.

Jane Eliza Lathrop was born August 25, 1828, the daughter of Dyer Lathrop of Albany, New York. In 1850 she married Leland Stanford, returning with him to California in 1855 where they settled in Sacramento. Leland Stanford later became President of the Southern Pacific Railroad and Governor of California. Their only child, Leland Stanford, Jr., was born in 1868.
